Matt and Emma met when they were 12 years old at Greenwood Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, SC. They developed hearts for youth ministry through various leadership roles in the church, which helped them to recognize the need for gospel-centered discipleship among teens. They married in 2021. In 2023, the Lord called the Heglers to serve in Nagoya, Japan with MTW Next. The mission of Next is to work alongside the church to reach local youth with the gospel, to train youth leaders, and to sustain missionary families globally.
